Botanical characteristic of a zigadenus
Zigadenus – this perennial herbaly plant of family lileyny (in newer sources the plant is carried to family melantiyevy). A plant root – the conic bulb with a diameter up to 10 mm covered on all the length with a dark-brown filmy cover. The stalk of a zigadenus upright, thin, not branching, in length can reach 90 cm. Plant leaves – linear, narrowed to the basis and pointed at the ends, settle down in the lower part of a stalk. Flowers – simple, hanging, are collected in a friable inflorescence (panicled and clustery). Petals are painted in a pale green shade. A fruit – a trekhgnezdy box of an ovoid and conic form, with numerous seeds (length of a box makes about 10 mm). Seeds – an oblong form, an ocherous shade.
Blossoms zigadenus during the summer period (June-August), fructifies – at the end of September. A natural area of distribution – northwest part of the European part of Russia, the territory of Siberia, Ukraine, Mongolia and China. Grows zigadenus on forest edges and glades, on meadows and in thickets of bushes, and also in the rarefied woods.
Useful properties of a zigadenus
Despite that fact that all parts of a plant of a zigadenus are poisonous, in traditional medicine for many decades the elevated part of a plant (herbal) is used. Prepare medicinal raw materials during blossoming of a plant – in June-August. The chemical composition of a herbal of a zigadenus still is up to the end not studied. Only that the herbal contains such strong alkaloids in the structure as veratrolzigadenin, verazinin and verazin is for certain known.
Because all parts of a plant are poisonous, to apply the medicines made of a zigadenus it is necessary with extra care. Use of curative infusions of a plant inside is not allowed. Tincture, infusions and ointment on the basis of a zigadenus render the pronounced antiparasitic and calming nervous system action.
Application of a zigadenus
In traditional medicine curative infusions, tinctures and ointments from a zigadenus are applied at neuralgia and radiculitises, as the anesthetizing, distracting and irritating means, and also as an effective preparation at fight against parasites. Tincture, infusion and ointment on the basis of this herb are applied only as external means!
Tincture of a zigadenus: 50 g of medicinal raw materials (plant herbal) fill in 100 ml of 40% ethyl alcohol and insist within 10 days in a dark place then filter the received tincture in pure capacity and apply outwardly at parasites and neuralgia.
Infusion of a zigadenus: 5 g of dry medicinal raw materials fill in 200 ml of hot water and insist within two hours then filter in pure capacity. Apply the received infusion as external means at parasites.
Ointment from a zigadenus: 20 g of a herbal pound from 50 g of vaseline or the kindled lard. Apply such ointment outwardly as anesthetizing and a revulsive at neuralgia, radiculitis, joint pains and rheumatism.

Contraindications to application of a zigadenus
Before the beginning treatment by medicines which part is zigadenus, should be remembered that all parts of a plant are very poisonous. Preparations of a zigadenus are contraindicated to pregnant women and the feeding women, children under three years, at liver diseases (cirrhosis) and at individual intolerance (allergic reaction).
